Our client is looking to expand their existing team with a dynamic and experienced Lead Structural Engineer to drive forward their nuclear engineering projects in Manchester.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Structural Engineer to join our client's dedicated team working on cutting-edge nuclear projects. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to ensure the successful delivery of complex nuclear infrastructure projects while adhering to industry standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Design and Analysis: Lead the structural design and analysis for nuclear projects, ensuring compliance with UK nuclear regulations, safety standards, and client specifications.
- Project Management: Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of structural engineering activities, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines to integrate structural solutions into broader project plans.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with structural design, analysis, and construction processes. Provide proactive solutions to address any potential issues.
- Quality Assurance: Review and approve structural calculations, drawings, and reports. Ensure all deliverables meet the required quality and safety standards.
- Client Engagement: Maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as the primary technical point of contact for structural engineering matters and providing expert advice and guidance.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative working environment. Provide guidance on technical and professional development.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all structural designs meet nuclear industry-specific regulatory requirements, codes, and standards (e.g., Nuclear Safety, Nuclear Site License Conditions).
Skills & Experience Required:
- Qualifications: Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent, with a degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (MEng/BEng).
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in structural engineering, with a significant portion of that in the nuclear sector or high-risk infrastructure projects.
- Nuclear Experience: In-depth knowledge of nuclear-specific design principles, safety regulations, and construction practices.
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in structural design and analysis software (e.g., Tekla, STAAD, SAP2000, or similar).
- Project Leadership: Demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams and managing complex projects from design through to construction and commissioning.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to clients and stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to handle complex engineering challenges in a high-stakes environment.
Desirable:
- Experience with seismic design and analysis in nuclear contexts.
- Knowledge of UK nuclear safety standards (e.g., ONR, NNL).
- Experience in both design and site-based roles.
- Familiarity with BIM and integrated project delivery methods.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
